Medical repatriation from Antalya: how we bring patients home

A fall, an illness or an accident can turn a holiday in Antalya, Alanya, Side, Belek or Kemer into a hospital stay. When the patient needs to get home, we coordinate the whole journey, from the hospital bed in Turkey to the bed at the receiving hospital. We work worldwide, between any two countries, with 24/7 coverage from our Antalya base.

Life-threatening emergency in Turkey? Call 112 first, then contact us.

First steps for families

  1. Write down the hospital name, ward and a direct phone number.
  2. Call the travel insurer's emergency line and ask for a case number.
  3. Collect the passport or ID, the insurance policy and a list of the patient's usual medication.
  4. Ask for the name of the treating doctor and request a medical report, ideally in English.
  5. Keep every invoice and report for the insurer.

Choosing the right way home

The doctors decide what is medically safe. The usual options are:

  • Medical escort on a scheduled flight: a doctor or nurse travels with a stable, seated patient.
  • Stretcher on a scheduled flight: for a patient who must lie flat, subject to airline approval. See stretcher transport.
  • Air ambulance: for patients who need intensive care on board. See air ambulance Antalya.

Almost every repatriation includes ground ambulances at both ends as part of a bed-to-bed transfer.

Fitness to fly and documents

The treating doctor in Antalya assesses the patient, and the doctor responsible for the transfer reviews the medical report, often in a doctor-to-doctor call. For scheduled flights, the airline usually also requires its own medical form (MEDIF).

Typically needed: passport or ID, insurance and case number, a current medical report or discharge summary in English, the treating doctor's contact details, and details of the receiving hospital or home address.

Insurance, quotes and coordination

Many insurers need to approve a repatriation in advance, so contact them first. We work under insurers' guarantees of payment and send case reports to insurers and assistance companies. Without insurance, we can still arrange the transfer on a self-pay basis.

Costs depend on the case and are quoted individually. You receive a written quote before booking. One coordinator manages the case and keeps the family and insurer informed. For the UK, see medical repatriation from Antalya to the UK. If a family has lost someone, see repatriation of a deceased person from Antalya.

Frequently asked questions

Who should we call first if a relative is hospitalised in Antalya?

If the patient has travel insurance, call the insurer's emergency or assistance number first and open a case, because many insurers need to approve a repatriation in advance. You can contact us at the same time for advice on the transport options.

Is an air ambulance always necessary?

No. Many stable patients can travel on a scheduled flight with a medical escort, or on a stretcher if the airline approves it. The doctors decide which option is safe for the patient's condition.

Can you repatriate patients from Antalya to any country?

Yes. We coordinate medical transfers worldwide between any two countries, with 24/7 coverage from our Antalya base.

How much does medical repatriation from Antalya cost?

There is no standard price. Costs depend on the patient's condition, the transport option, the destination and the timing. You receive a written quote before anything is booked.

What if the patient has no travel insurance?

The transfer can be arranged on a self-pay basis. We explain the realistic options for the patient's condition and send a written quote before booking.
